Step one… pour glass of water.
Step two… mix in dirt.
Step three… drink it.

Summary

Drink dirt! Well not any dirt, a special dirt called shilajit. (sometimes spelled shilajith; also known as Mineral Pitch, Jew’s Pitch, Ozokerite, Mineral Wax, and Shilajita Mumiyo.) I do advocate people enjoying regular dirt through aerobic gardening and eating it on occasion to help general allergies. This article however is devoted to shilajit, a substance touted to increase testosterone, build muscle, lose fat, increase sex drive, improve memory, and improve blood lipids.

My Background

I stumbled upon shilajit through angrily watching David Wolfe terribly (and incorrectly) explain water purifying methods on youtube. Since coming across Dr. Cassar’s concoction of Shilajit and fulvic acid, I was intrigued and got some. While I cannot say I have experienced life changing effect from shilajit, I am pretty certain it will remain in my protocols for quite sometime. If you are a water nazi like me, it is an ideal way to get a full range of trace minerals into your diet. Shilajit turns water a dark black so expect lots of observers asking you about what the hell it is. One company is fully capitalizing on this by selling their fulvic water in bottles with the other clear water. It’s quite brilliant for branding and product positioning. The brand is called BLK Water.

Shilajit Studies

Examine.com recently published their shilajit page. Not many studies have been done on it as of yet, but it seems that studies to seem to show a general positive increase in health overall. One study showed a 23.5% increase in testosterone… granted it was in infertile men… and was irrespective of other diet considerations and exercise… and another study showed it upped sperm count in low-sperm count men by 130-378%. Despite not having a sperm issue of my own… these results seem promising. My guess is that in all reality, shilajit is like a multivitamin for minerals most people don’t think they are deficient in… it corrects the deficiency, improves inflammation levels, and boosts t levels through minerals. This would also explain why it is known to improve memory and lipid levels.

So at the very least, my conclusion is that shilajit is a superfood of sorts… but for water… especially when combined with reverse osmosis water which strips water of all its minerals because the mineral rich shilajit and fulvic acid restore them and add some more.

How to Take Shilajit

50-200mg/kg seems to be the recommended dosage… I have a tbsp. of shilajit and 5 drops of fulvic acid in 32 oz of water daily. While I would like to tout this as a next generation biohack as it ups testosterone, reduces, fat, improves cardiac health, and sexual function… there just is not enough scientific research to say that to public just yet… but I have a strong strong hunch, this shit is the good stuff!

If you blend it, shake it, stir it… it gets a nice froth… and if you are a coffee lover or drink bulletproof coffee, adding shilajit makes it taste like a mocha.
